CrowdStrike Holdings (CRWD) shares surged 20.5% after the release of its quarterly earnings report, which exceeded all market expectations. The key driver was a sharp increase in demand for cybersecurity solutions amid an unprecedented rise in attacks using artificial intelligence.
The company's financial results for the second quarter significantly beat analysts' consensus forecasts. Revenue reached $1.47 billion, up 26% from the same period last year, while the market expected $1.44 billion. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $0.31, versus the projected $0.29.
Of particular note is the metric of new annual recurring revenue (ARR), which hit a record $332.8 million — a 51% year-over-year increase. Total ARR grew 25% to $5.84 billion. These figures clearly demonstrate that companies worldwide are actively revising their cybersecurity budgets.
The "Mythos Moment" and a New Era of AI Threats
CrowdStrike founder and CEO George Kurtz attributed the impressive results to the so-called "Mythos moment" — the release of the Anthropic Mythos model, which is reportedly used to find vulnerabilities in software. It was this event that forced corporations to radically rethink their priorities in AI security.
"The Mythos moment was a signal to the market: any deployed AI requires protection, and that is our opportunity. In the near future, every major business will work with AI, and its security is the biggest opportunity we have ever had," Kurtz said during the conference call.
The CEO described what is happening as an "arms race": AI multiplies attackers' capabilities and simultaneously drives up spending on cyber defense. The company raised its full-year guidance for net new ARR by as much as 630 basis points — to approximately 34% at the midpoint — and now expects annual revenue of $5.99–6.01 billion.
These results confirm CrowdStrike's earlier research on AI-based threats and align with the forecasts of renowned analyst Jim Cramer, who calls cybersecurity the top theme for all investors.
My analysis: The market has finally realized that AI is not only a business opportunity but also a colossal risk. CrowdStrike finds itself at the epicenter of this transformation, and its ability to monetize corporate fears is impressive. However, investors should remember: in the long term, competition in the AI security space will only intensify, and current growth rates may prove unsustainable.
