Last week, BitMine made a major Ethereum purchase, acquiring 32,447 ETH. This allowed the company to bring its reserves to 5.85 million ETH, equivalent to approximately 4.8% of the entire circulating supply of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization. This move underscores a strategic focus on long-term accumulation of the asset, despite market volatility.
A key part of the portfolio — 5.07 million ETH, or about 87% of the total volume — is already staked in the Ethereum protocol. The expected annual yield from locking up the coins is estimated at $330 million. This not only generates steady passive income but also strengthens BitMine's position as one of the largest institutional validators on the network.
As of August 23, the company's total asset value, including cryptocurrencies, cash, securities, and other investments, reached $14.9 billion. Such a scale indicates that BitMine is diversifying its holdings, but Ethereum remains the core of its strategy.
My analysis: Increasing staking to 87% of reserves is a signal of confidence in Ethereum's long-term value, especially ahead of potential network upgrades and growing institutional adoption. However, concentration in a single asset carries risks: if staking yields decline or regulatory pressure intensifies, the company could face a reassessment of its position. Nevertheless, current figures reinforce the trend toward "whale" consolidation of ETH among major players.
