Strategy forms an alliance to protect Bitcoin: $15 million for quantum resistance

Bitcoin Security and Quantum Computing

Strategy has officially introduced the Bitcoin Security Consortium — a strategic alliance uniting leading financial institutions and key players in the crypto industry. Consortium members have committed to investing $15 million over three years to strengthen the long-term security of the Bitcoin network.

The founding members include Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, BlackRock, Block, Blockstream, Coinbase, Fidelity Digital Assets, Galaxy, and Strategy itself. This composition of participants sends a clear signal to the market: systemic protection of the first cryptocurrency is transitioning from volunteer initiatives to an institutional priority.

Two Key Objectives of the Consortium

The organization will focus on two areas. The first is direct funding for developers and researchers working on blockchain security. The second is informing the broader community about the current state of network security and potential threats.

Strategy CEO Phong Le emphasized that as long-term BTC holders, the company is interested in preserving the asset's security for future generations. Funding and supporting developers is a natural and most effective way to contribute to this task.

Focus on Quantum Resilience

The consortium's primary area of attention will be preparing for long-term risks associated with the development of quantum computing. Strategy stressed that currently, there are no quantum computers capable of posing a widespread threat to Bitcoin's cryptography. However, preparing post-quantum security measures is a critically important long-term priority.

The consortium intends to support ongoing developments in this direction and provide investors, the public, and the media with a reliable reference point as the technology evolves. At the same time, the group will not directly make changes to the protocol or speak on behalf of developers — each participant independently determines which projects to allocate funds to.

Operational coordination of the Bitcoin Security Consortium will be handled by Brink Executive Director Mike Schmidt. He participates in the initiative on a voluntary basis, maintaining independence from the member companies. In the coming months, the consortium plans to release educational materials on Bitcoin security and continue funding the relevant developer community.

My comment: The launch of this consortium is not just another piece of news, but a crucial infrastructure step. The unification of giants like BlackRock and Fidelity under the banner of protecting Bitcoin from quantum threats effectively legitimizes the issue at an institutional level. The market should perceive this as a signal: preparation for the post-quantum era is becoming not an option, but a mandatory element of strategy for all serious players.
