Chinese tech giant SenseTime, a leader in artificial intelligence, has officially launched an ambitious project called Galaxy. This initiative brings together nearly two dozen chip manufacturers and infrastructure solution providers, underscoring Beijing's drive for technological independence amid increasing restrictions from the West.

As part of the Galaxy project, five computing clusters are planned, each equipped with 10,000 Chinese AI accelerators. These are specialized processors developed by local companies, serving as a direct response to the export ban on advanced chips from NVIDIA and AMD. In addition to computing power, the project includes the creation of a token processing center—likely for data management and optimizing neural network operations.

Particularly noteworthy is the support for 200 AI startups. SenseTime intends to provide young companies with access to computing resources and infrastructure, which could significantly accelerate the development of China's AI ecosystem. However, specific construction timelines and investment amounts have not yet been disclosed, leaving room for speculation.

Cryptalist Analysis: This move by SenseTime is not just a technological breakthrough but a strategic maneuver amid geopolitical tensions. China is demonstrating its ability to create competitive solutions without relying on Western suppliers. However, the success of the Galaxy project will depend on the actual performance of domestic chips and their ability to compete with global counterparts. If SenseTime manages to realize its vision, it could become a turning point for the entire crypto infrastructure and AI sector in the region.
