Tether Gold has received official status as a commodity in the Abu Dhabi financial center.

Regulators of the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) have officially recognized the Tether Gold (XAUT) token as a permissible spot commodity. This decision opens the door for licensed financial institutions to offer services related to tokenized gold within the ADGM jurisdiction.
The status of XAUT as a spot commodity means that institutional and qualified investors can now legally trade, store, and use this asset within a regulated infrastructure. This is an important signal for the market: the regulator confirms that tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) can be integrated into traditional financial systems without losing legal clarity.
Recall that ADGM previously granted a similar status to the USDT stablecoin, which is pegged to the US dollar. Thus, Abu Dhabi is consistently building a regulatory framework for digital assets that have real backing — whether fiat currency or precious metals.
From my perspective, this decision is another step toward legitimizing tokenized commodities as a full-fledged asset class. The gold market remains one of the most liquid and conservative, and its digital version, having received regulatory approval in such a prestigious center as ADGM, could become a catalyst for the mass adoption of RWAs in the Middle East and beyond. In the coming months, we can expect similar initiatives from other jurisdictions seeking to attract capital into infrastructure for tokenized assets.
