XAUT has received official status as a permissible commodity in the Abu Dhabi Financial Centre.

The tokenized asset Tether Gold (XAUT), backed by physical gold, has received official recognition as a permissible spot commodity within the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). This decision paves the way for licensed financial institutions to offer services related to this instrument.
The new status of XAUT means that regulated companies in ADGM can now legally store, trade, and provide clients with access to tokenized gold without fear of regulatory risks. This is an important signal for the market: institutional investors gain the opportunity to diversify their portfolios through a crypto asset backed by a real precious metal, while operating within a jurisdiction with transparent rules.
It is worth noting that ADGM had previously granted a similar status to the US dollar-pegged stablecoin USDT. Thus, the financial center is consistently integrating key categories of digital assets — first fiat stablecoins, and now commodity tokens. This sets a precedent for other jurisdictions seeking a balance between innovation and investor protection.
In my view, the recognition of XAUT in ADGM is not just a local development, but part of a global trend toward legitimizing tokenized real-world assets (RWAs). While regulators were previously cautious about such instruments, we are now seeing concrete steps to create infrastructure for their circulation. For XAUT holders, this reduces legal risks, and for the market as a whole, it increases confidence in the segment of asset-backed crypto assets.
