Tether Gold (XAUT) has been granted the status of a permitted spot asset in the Abu Dhabi financial center.

Tether Gold (XAUT) tokenized gold has been officially recognized as a permissible spot commodity in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). This decision paves the way for licensed companies operating within the ADGM jurisdiction to offer services related to this digital asset.

The status of a "permissible spot commodity" is not just a formality. It implies that XAUT meets the strict criteria of the UAE regulatory authorities, significantly enhancing its legitimacy at the institutional level. Asset managers, brokers, and other financial intermediaries can now include Tether Gold in their products without concerns about regulatory risk.

Why is this important?

Gold has traditionally been considered a safe-haven asset, but its physical form comes with logistical complexities. Tokenized versions, such as XAUT, solve this problem by offering instant liquidity and blockchain transparency. Recognition in ADGM, a major financial hub in the Middle East, is a strong signal to global investors: regulators are increasingly embracing digital commodities as a full-fledged asset class.

It is worth recalling that ADGM previously granted a similar status to the US dollar-pegged stablecoin USDT. Thus, Tether is consistently strengthening its position in the region, securing approval for two of its key products — a fiat stablecoin and a tokenized commodity asset.

My comment: Regulatory clarity is what the market has been lacking in recent years. The ADGM decision not only confirms the maturity of Tether Gold as an instrument but also sets a precedent for other jurisdictions. If such steps continue to gain momentum, we may see a wave of institutional adoption of tokenized commodities, which will fundamentally change the structure of global investment portfolios.
