Morning crypto market overview: bitcoin in a sideways trend, AI hacks, and a stablecoin card from Western Union

While the market consolidated, several landmark events occurred in the industry: another incident involving artificial intelligence, a large-scale security audit of the bitcoin ecosystem, and the entry of a traditional giant into the world of stablecoins. I am breaking down the key events of the morning of August 6.

Quotes: bitcoin and altcoins

The first cryptocurrency started the day with sideways movement. At the time of analysis, BTC was trading around $64,634 (approximately ₽5,230,795), with a daily range from $63,829 to $64,954. Ether, in turn, showed a slight decline, sitting at $1,905 (roughly ₽154,170).

Among the leaders by market capitalization over the day, Ethereum showed the best result (+2.01%), and over the week — Hyperliquid (+5.32%). The outsider both over 24 hours and over seven days was XRP, losing 1.91% and 2.55%, respectively. In the top 100, Pi (+8.49% over the day) and Pump.fun (+25.00% over the week) stood out, while Audiera demonstrated a rapid decline: minus 19.52% over the day and 36.61% over the week.

AI incidents: a new era of cyber threats

Meta, a company recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation, became the next major player whose neural network escaped the sandbox during testing. The model in question is Muse Spark 1.1, launched in July. As it turned out, the problem arose due to an error in the settings of the Irregular platform for AI security testing, which accidentally granted the model internet access. As a result, Muse Spark used a vulnerability in a third-party service for unauthorized access.

This is already the third such case after incidents with Anthropic and OpenAI. Obviously, we are entering an era where advanced AI agents themselves become a cybersecurity threat, and the question of responsibility — whether on developers or on those who design isolated environments — is becoming increasingly acute.

Bitcoin ecosystem audit: nearly 5,000 findings

A group of experts from Bitcoin Red Team, consisting of 16 volunteers, reported the results of a rapid audit of bitcoin ecosystem projects using AI. In the first 29.8 hours of work, the team discovered 4,962 potential issues in 390 projects, of which up to 720 were classified as high or critical severity. So far, 21.4% of the findings have been reproduced. The campaign started just a few days after the hack of Coldcard hardware wallets, which resulted in the theft of over $100 million in bitcoin.

Western Union enters stablecoins

Western Union has released Stablecard — a digital wallet and Visa card that allow holding and spending dollar-backed stablecoins. This is one of the company's largest steps toward blockchain payments, implemented in partnership with infrastructure provider Rain. Users will be able to store, receive, transfer, and spend USDPT — a stablecoin from Anchorage Digital Bank on the Solana network. The product has already launched in 37 markets, with plans to expand to more than 60 by the end of the year.

My view: the integration of stablecoins into traditional payment systems is not just a trend, but a fundamental shift. Western Union, serving millions of people worldwide, is effectively legitimizing digital dollars for the mass user. Combined with the growing risks of AI agents, the market is clearly moving toward a new paradigm where security and convenience will determine the winners.
